Wounds are a serious health care issue with profound personal, clinical and economic implications. The purpose of skin care and wound management is to identify residents at risk for breakdown, to prevent and manage skin breakdown, to reduce pain and infections, to reduce overall incidence of pressure ulcers, and to promote an optimal level of function for the resident for their comfort and quality of life. This course will review anatomy and physiology of skin, wound healing, types of wounds, prevention, assessment, skin/wound programs and staff responsibilities. (This course is for Ontario only).
